IQOS 3 DUO vs IQOS ILUMA: Which Should You Buy in Dubai?
Share
The short answer: the IQOS 3 DUO and IQOS ILUMA use different sticks and cannot share them. The 3 DUO takes HEETS; the ILUMA family takes TEREA. If you are choosing a new device in Dubai today, ILUMA is the current generation and the one we sell.
IQOS 3 DUO vs IQOS ILUMA at a glance
| IQOS 3 DUO | IQOS ILUMA family | |
|---|---|---|
| Sticks | HEETS | TEREA |
| Heating method | Metal blade inside the holder | Smartcore Induction System (no blade) |
| Cleaning | Blade and holder need regular cleaning | No cleaning needed |
| Stick design | Hollow core for the blade | Solid core with a built-in heating element |
| Session length | Shorter, per stick | Up to 6 minutes or 14 puffs |
| Generation | Older platform | Current generation (ILUMA, ILUMA ONE, ILUMA PRIME, ILUMA i series) |
| Available from us | No | Yes — from AED 169 |
The practical difference is the heating system. The 3 DUO pushes a metal blade into the stick; ILUMA heats a small element built into the TEREA stick by induction. That is why the two stick types look and fit differently and why they are not interchangeable — our HEETS vs TEREA guide explains it in detail.
Which one should you buy?
Choose based on the sticks you will actually use. If you already own a 3 DUO and are happy with it, you will keep buying HEETS. If you are buying your first device, or want a bladeless design with nothing to clean, ILUMA is the better starting point. Within the ILUMA family:
- ILUMA ONE — all-in-one, the simplest, from AED 169
- ILUMA Standard — holder plus pocket charger
- ILUMA PRIME — the premium kit
Switching from a 3 DUO to ILUMA
Moving to ILUMA means switching to TEREA sticks — your leftover HEETS will not work in the new device. Start with a balanced flavor such as Amber or Yellow, or a lighter one such as Silver; the beginner's flavor guide and the full flavor guide help you pick, and each origin edition is explained in the TEREA price guide.
IQOS 3 DUO price in Dubai
We do not stock the IQOS 3 DUO, so we cannot quote a price for it. If you are comparing prices, remember to factor in the sticks you will buy afterwards: HEETS for the 3 DUO, TEREA for ILUMA. Our ILUMA prices are on the ILUMA price list.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use TEREA sticks in an IQOS 3 DUO?
No. The IQOS 3 DUO is a blade-heating device that uses HEETS sticks. TEREA sticks need an IQOS ILUMA, ILUMA ONE or ILUMA PRIME.
Can I use HEETS in an IQOS ILUMA?
No. HEETS have a hollow core made for a heating blade. ILUMA heats the tobacco by induction, and only TEREA sticks contain the element it needs.
Do you sell the IQOS 3 DUO?
No. We focus on the current generation: IQOS ILUMA, ILUMA ONE and ILUMA PRIME devices, plus TEREA sticks in every origin edition we stock.
Is IQOS ILUMA better than the IQOS 3 DUO?
ILUMA is the newer generation: it is bladeless, so there is nothing to clean, and it uses TEREA sticks. The IQOS 3 DUO is the older platform. Which suits you depends on the sticks you can reliably buy and how much upkeep you want.
Do I need to clean an IQOS ILUMA?
No. The Smartcore Induction System is bladeless and TEREA sticks are sealed, so there is no blade or tobacco residue to clean.
How long is a session on IQOS ILUMA?
Up to 6 minutes or 14 puffs, whichever comes first. ILUMA i models add FlexPuff, which can give up to 4 extra puffs.
Which ILUMA should I buy if I am upgrading from a 3 DUO?
ILUMA ONE is the simplest all-in-one unit; ILUMA and ILUMA PRIME include a pocket charger. The ILUMA ONE vs Standard vs Prime guide compares them.
